Supervisor, Garage - Motor Vehicles

Working as a key member of the Engineering and Public Works team the Garage Supervisor provides on-site oversight to the mechanic shop including leadership and supervision of all garage staff, maintenance of health and safety standards and coordination with Engineering and Public Works Foremens and all other Town departments. This position is also contributes to mechanical work when needed.

Qualifications/skills required:

  • Licensed Red Seal in Heavy Equipment Mechanic
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum 5 years experience in a supervisory role
  • Additional certifications in Automotive Technician or Truck and Transport Technician are considered an asset
  • Valid New Brunswick Class 3E License

Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Planning, scheduling, coordinating, supervising and occasionally participating in the work of the garage personnel engaged in repairing and maintaining light and heavy automotive vehicles and construction equipment
  • Managing the Town fleet including preventive maintenance, parts inventory and replacement schedules which include budgeting for new purchases
  • Communicating with major customers regarding incoming work, timelines and expectations
  • Maintains job work orders; keeps records of labour, materials, parts, supplies and other records necessary in the repair and maintenance process; controls the release of serviced and repaired vehicles
  • Developing, implementing, and monitoring health & safety policies and procedures
  • Addressing performance management and development issues with staff
  • Sourcing parts and managing inventory ensuring parts are readily available for front line equipment
  • Reviewing quality, accuracy and cost of work done by external vendors
  • Seeking continual process improvements and cost saving measures


This is a permanent full-time position hours Monday – Friday 7am – 3:30pm with overtime hours required outside of the standard work week.

Salary is commensurate with the Salary Administration Policy for Non-Unionized Employees, Level 5-F ($68,598 – $85,747)
