Job Description
An exciting and challenging opportunity exists for a permanent, full-time Crime Analyst II at the City of Kamloops! The Crime Analyst II performs highly skilled specialized research work that supports RCMP criminal investigations, operational programs, and crime reduction strategies. The incumbent is responsible for the identification of evolving or existing crime patterns and trends to forecast future crime occurrences, providing advice on crime analysis and research, and for presenting findings to RCMP members, City of Kamloops Council and staff, and outside agencies.

Typical duties of this position include:

  • Collects, assembles, analyzes, and interprets a wide variety of investigative and intelligence data to support ongoing investigations.
  • Reviews police occurrence files to determine immediate crime problems and patterns of criminal activity.
  • Prepares suspect and victim profiles, suspect lists, maps, and other graphic representations of criminal activity.
  • Evaluates and validates intelligence information gathered from various closed and open sources, including web-based programs, automated databases, manual files, and electronic devices such as cell phones and tablets.
  • Develops and maintains comprehensive files, records, and documentation.

The successful candidate must have the following qualifications:

  • Completion of senior secondary school or its equivalent.
  • Completion of a Bachelor of Technology in Forensic Investigation, Crime and Intelligence Analysis from British Columbia Institute of Technology; OR Completion of a post-secondary degree in social sciences, criminal justice or criminology and a minimum of one year’s experience within the last five years in crime and statistical analysis and research.
  • Proficient in intermediate Word and intermediate Excel as demonstrated through testing. 70% pass rate required.
  • Minimum of three years’ experience within the last five years working in a police municipal support environment using information and intelligence database systems such as, but not limited to, ROSS, CPIC, PRIME, JUSTIN, ArcGIS, and open source systems.
  • Shortlisted applicants must successfully pass a National Test for Intelligence Analysts administered by the RCMP Intelligence Standards and Program Development (ISPD) Section in order to proceed to the interview stage.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain RCMP Top Secret Level Security Clearance. For new hires, and those working in designated positions of trust, including those working directly with vulnerable persons, no formal offer of employment will be made until an applicant completes a police information check.

Rotational Weeks Week one: Monday to Friday 7:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. Week two: Monday to Friday 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
